The Board's legal authority for disciplinary action is set forth in Minnesota Statute §156.127.
When a veterinarian has been found by the Board to have violated a Statute or Rule governing the practice of veterinary medicine, the Board may discipline the licensee by imposing one or more of the following actions.
REVOKE: The license to practice is taken from the licensee, usually on a permanent basis.
SUSPEND: The license is taken from the licensee for a specified period of time and restored to the licensee predicated on the licensee fulfilling specified requirements. Suspensions may be all or partially stayed.
LIMITATIONS: Licensee retains license, but is prohibited from performing specified acts or services.
CONDITIONS: Licensee retains license predicated on fulfilling certain requirements specified by the Board.
CEASE AND DESIST: The board has authority to issue an order requiring an unlicensed person to cease and desist from the unauthorized practice of veterinary medicine.
A licensee may also be censured or reprimanded and assessed an administrative monetary penalty.
